Epic Games Free Game Weekly – The Spirit and The Mouse

Welcome to the inaugural Epic Games: Game Gone Free Weekly column where I, your cloud gaming version of Uncle Fester, will dissect, analyze, and deliver pretentious, albeit hubristic, quasi-intellectual quips about the weekly Epic Games: Game Gone Free release(s).

I’ll also be your personal information person thingy (I don’t know how I’ve made it this far in life…) and inform you whether the game is available on cloud gaming platforms like GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud, Amazon Luna+, Boosteroid, Shadow, and/or AirGPU.

My goal in life is to amass a digital library that would make the Library of Alexandria look like a secondhand bookstore built on a snow dune in northern Minnesota. Or a sand dune in San Francisco.

I don’t know, hot or cold, pick your poison.

Famous last words?

Free, Gratis, Kostenlos, Gratuït

You might wonder why I, a supposedly functioning adult, care so much about accumulating free games. Well, it’s simple: I’ve convinced myself that having a vast library of unplayed games is a personality trait. It’s either this or develop a real hobby, and we both know that’s not happening anytime soon.

At least I am attempting to contribute something to society, right? Right.

Epic, But

“Why,” you ask, your concern for my priorities evident, “do you analyze Epic’s free game strategy week after week?” Well, it’s simple: in the fast-paced world of cloud gaming, someone needs to be consistently distracted by shiny free things, and I’ve appointed myself as tribute.

Plus, writing about free games gives me a sense of purpose. It’s either this or finally learn how to cook something other than microwave ramen.

Final Thoughts

As I wrap up another week in my ongoing saga of “Justifying My Epic Game Collection,” I’m left with the usual questions. Will I ever actually play this game? Will cloud gaming technology advance faster than my backlog grows? And most importantly, will I ever grow out of this phase, or am I doomed to be the digital equivalent of a cat lady, but with games instead of cats?

Though the paradox makes my head spin, because I have like 100 cats.

Only time (and my ever-increasing neuroticism) will tell. But one thing’s certain – next week I’ll be back here, adding another game to my virtual trophy case, all in the name of being a “cultured” gamer.

As always, remember to follow us on our social media (e.g., Threads, X (Twitter), YouTube and Facebook) to keep up with the latest news.

Renier Palland

Renier is a jack of all trades and a master of some. A published author and poet, Renier understands the art of weaving a narrative, or so the critics say. As a professional overreactor and occasional debater of existentialist philosophy, Renier thrives on games where choices actually matter, e.g. Life Is Strange, Mass Effect, and Heavy Rain. Renier often finds himself in a game of throes on GeForce NOW, sobbing like a Sicilian widow because life is definitely way too strange sometimes.
