S&D Extraction, a new competitive mode is coming to Halo Infinite later this year. Unveiled by the Halo Esports YouTube channel, this new mode is inspired by tactical shooter game modes. S&D Extraction (Seek and Deploy) pits two teams of four against each other on asymmetrical maps in a round-based battle. One team plays offence, attempting to extract data from designated sites, while the other team defends and prevents the extraction. The first team to win six rounds secures victory.
Tactical Gameplay with an Economy System
Unlike traditional Halo modes, S&D Extraction features an economy system. Every player starts with the Bandit Evo, but between rounds, they can spend earned credits to purchase new weapons and equipment. Credits are gained by securing kills and completing objectives, adding a strategic layer to the mode.
Each round begins with a 30-second buy phase where players can adjust their loadouts. On offense, a team must plant an extraction device at either of the two sites (A or B) and initiate data extraction. The defending team has one minute to halt the process by converting the extraction in their favor. Teams switch roles after every round.
S&D Extraction is also a one-life-per-round mode, meaning once you’re eliminated, you’re out until the next round—unless you have enough credits to buy back in. This creates high-stakes decision-making, as spending too much early could leave you without resources in later rounds.
Forge Hub Map Contest
To celebrate the launch, Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) is teaming up with Forge Hub to host an official S&D Extraction map contest. With both parties contributing $10,000, the total prize pool sits at $20,000. Winning maps will also be considered for official matchmaking when the mode goes live.
Playtests are underway, and more details on S&D Extraction will be shared as the release approaches. What do you think of Halo Infinite’s take on this tactical mode? Let us know in the comments!
