It has certainly been an interesting day in the world of video games.
In case you have missed it, XboxEra reported on the news that Xbox was aiming to bring their once-thought-exclusive title, Starfield, to PlayStation consoles later this year after the first major expansion for the game is released.
This was then followed by an article from Tom Warren at The Verge that another Xbox title being discussed as coming to PlayStation was Indiana Jones and The Great Circle to PlayStation.
To see out the trilogy, it was then reported by Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grub that Gears of War was also a franchise that Xbox was considering bringing to PlayStation. These reports of course follow the reports from early January 2024 that both Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves were also headed for other platforms outside of Xbox, namely Nintendo and PlayStation.
A lot of Xbox fans did not take these recent reports very well, with a lot of them threatening to move from Xbox to other platforms on the back of them. One thing that was evidently clear from all the discourse was that a communication of sorts from team Xbox was needed and now we have that from the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, confirming that a ‘business update event’ will take place next week where the current future vision of Xbox will be outlined.
What could it all mean…
Well if the rumours circling about the possibility of Xbox looking to take some of their 1st party titles to other platforms were not true, then why not take the opportunity to simply deny these rumours?
The fact that Xbox has what they are calling a ‘business update event’ planned then I would strongly air on the side that the rumours are indeed true. I think we are looking at a case of ‘which’ rumours are true as opposed to ‘if’ the rumours are true.
