NACON has levelled up the Xbox controller game with the recent release of a special anniversary edition of their Revolution X Unlimited controller.
The controller coincides with the 25th anniversary of Xbox and adopts the iconic colour scheme of the Xbox 360. It is also compatible with the Xbox Series consoles, as well as Xbox One, PC and Android.

Features
The controller itself is absolutely packed with premium features such as:
- Hall Effect Technology: Integrated into the joysticks and triggers for increased precision and an extended lifespan, preventing the “joystick drift” phenomenon.
- Superior Responsiveness: Omron® micro-switches on the action buttons, D-pad, and triggers for ultra-responsive commands.
- Versatile Connectivity: Three connection modes (wireless via dongle, wired, and Bluetooth) to adapt to all gaming situations.
- Integrated LCD Screen: Simplified access to essential information, profile customization, and real-time audio settings.
- Complete Customization: A dedicated app (PC), six additional weights, several joystick heads and rings, and six programmable shortcut keys.
- Long-Lasting Battery: A rechargeable battery offering more than ten hours of gameplay.
In the box, you will find the controller, USB-C cable, charging dock, USB Dongle and also a small plastic container that carries all the spare parts such as interchangeable thumb grips, D-pad and controller weights.
It also comes with a hard-shell carry case, which I cannot underscore enough, and is key for premium controllers such as this. When you want to take a controller such as this one with you, you want it protected.

Fantastic Xbox Integration
Now, the main angle I took for this review was using the controller exclusively on my Xbox Series X. The NACON Revolution X Unlimited has a native support app that you can download on the Xbox Series consoles. The app is also available on PC.
I highly recommend downloading and connecting the controller to the app as soon as possible to ensure both the controller and the wireless dongle are updated.
To update the controller, you will need to have it wired to the Xbox as opposed to being connected via the docking station. I did encounter a very small issue here, where the app was not detecting the controller; however, I rectified this by shutting the app down completely and reopening it.
The app allows you to fully customise the controller to your needs. Things from the joystick and trigger sensitivity, mapping of the buttons, this, of course, includes all the additional buttons that the controller has, 6 in total. Even controlling and adjusting the controller lighting effects are options here.
You can also create and customise various controller profiles so you can switch up your controller to your specific needs, depending on which type of game you are playing.
As I also mentioned previously, it is not just the software side of the controller that you can customise. You can also change the hardware side of it with the various attachments that it comes boxed with. You can change the thumbstick grips, the D-pad, and add some weights (10g, 14g, 16g) to the controller grip if you would like, and there are also joystick rings to adjust the motion.
In terms of customisation, the Revolution Pro X Unlimited Anniversary Edition has you covered.

Performance
No messing around here, the NACON Revolution X Unlimited Anniversary Edition feels absolutely fantastic to hold. The grips have a very slight rubberised feel to them, which, in my opinion, feels great in the hands.
The face buttons are nice and large and have a very good ‘click’ to them. The triggers also feel much improved over the standard Xbox Series controller; they seem to have a little bit more pushback on them, which, when playing a racing or FPS title, feels fantastic. You also have the option to lock the triggers at a ‘half push’ position if desired.
Before using the controller on my Xbox, I added 2 x 16g weights, as I prefer my controllers with a bit of weight to them if possible. I also changed out the D-pad for the more conventional one, again, though this is just due to my own personal preference.
I used the controller for extended periods across several different genres of games. Each session has the same outcome; the controller felt and performed excellently. It was exactly what I would expect personally from a premium controller such as this.
One thing I want to mention here again is just how good the controller feels. Each time I have not played my Xbox for a period of time, and I come back and pick up the NACON Revolution X Unlimited Anniversary Edition controller, it just feels so good to hold, and for me personally, it instantly makes my gaming session more enjoyable.
We also need to take a moment here to mention the look and the aesthetics of the controller. With its 25th Xbox Anniversary Xbox 360-inspired colour design, it looks fantastic. The LCD screen built into the controller also mirrors the iconic ‘Blade’ dashboard from the Xbox 360 era. A small yet fantastic touch.
Should you buy a controller purely based on how it looks…absolutely!
Final Thoughts
To sum up, the NACON Revolution X Unlimited Anniversary Edition controller is defintely one one of the better premium gaming controllers that I have used personally.
It feels great in the hands and is comfortable over long gaming sessions. It comes packed with a range of customisation options so it can be tailored to a specific need, and to top it all off, it also looks fantastic. I cannot reiterate how good the Xbox 360-inspired design on this controller looks. As someone who was a huge fan of the Xbox 360 and that era of gaming, the controller certainly gives me a strong feeling of nostalgia.
If you are in the market for a top-end controller, you certainly could not go wrong with the NACON Revolution X Unlimited Anniversary Edition. It will certainly be my go-to Xbox controller for the foreseeable future.
