What Happened?
During Netflix’s most recent quarterly earnings, we were notified of Netflix’s plan to release at least one game per month based on one of their own IP. This starts in July with a game from Netflix Stories Emily in Paris. Other Netflix IPs like The Dragon Prince, Selling Sunset, and a multiplayer Squid Game adaptation will launch later this year. This is an unsurprising move by the streaming company who has been building up a massive catalog of IP over the last decade. When asked about this move, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated:
“Netflix is able to serve its super fandom with games”

This move comes after three years of Netflix building up its gaming capabilities and finding a foothold within the games market. We also got confirmation that Netflix may add advertisements to select games in the future and the goal of Netflix Games is to be profitable in its own right like Netflix as a company. We also found out that Netflix added over 8 million new customers, which brings their total number of subscribers to almost 280 million.
While the majority of games Netflix releases have been targeted at mobile so far. Netflix has an ongoing cloud gaming beta in flight that has been expanding in game support and territory availability.
