Netflix Games in a shocking announcement, has announced the closure of two more Netflix Game Studios; these being rather strange choices, however, as one of the studios is Night School Studio, who develeloped the legendary Oxenfree series and Netflix’s recent cloud game Unhinged.

So What Happened?
Netflix has confirmed they plan to close the game studios Moonloot Games, which Netflix founded in 2022 and Night School Studio, which Netflix acquired in 2021. Netflix has sworn that they are still investing in video games; however, the recent shutdowns of Night School and Moonloot as well as the sell-off of Spry Fox, have me wondering. Night School Studio, to me, is especially a surprising shutdown as their games have won awards and are fan-favourite indie gems as well as their latest game, Unhinged, being a Netflix Cloud Gaming exclusive. The reason given behind the shutdown is “switching priorities” with Netflix Games more interested in games for kids, party games and games with mainstream appeal.
if anyone who worked for Night School Studio or Moonloot Games is reading this, we send our best wishes and hope you all land on your feet safely and soon. Unfortunately massive layoffs and studio closures have become the norm for the gaming industry.
