Xbox Cloud Gaming is introducing two new features to enhance the streaming experience for players enrolled in the Feature Preview program. Starting today, users accessing the platform via browser or TV such as Samsung TVs and Amazon Firesticks can explore a new Streaming Settings page. This update brings two tools to improve your gaming experience. To join the Feature Preview program, simply go to xbox.com/play, click your avatar, Settings, and toggle the option in Account. Changes should take effect within 30 minutes.
Network Quality Indicator
The Network Quality Indicator is a notification system designed to alert users when critical streaming metrics, like packet loss, ping, or jitter, exceed optimal thresholds. When active, icons appear on the screen during gameplay to indicate potential issues. Players can opt out of these notifications via the Streaming Settings menu.
Stats Overlay
The Stats Overlay provides detailed, real-time metrics about your network performance, helping players identify and resolve streaming issues. Key metrics displayed include FPS (frames per second), ping, bitrate, decode time, jitter, and packet loss. This feature is opt-in and can be toggled on or off in the same Streaming Settings menu.
Here’s a breakdown of the key metrics tracked:
- FPS (Frames Per Second): Measures the visual smoothness of gameplay. Target range: 30-60 FPS.
- Ping (Latency): Reflects the time it takes for data to travel to the server and back. Target: Below 80ms.
- Bitrate: Affects video/audio quality. Higher values generally improve quality but require better bandwidth.
- Decode Time: Tracks how efficiently your device processes streams. Target: Below 12ms.
- Jitter: Shows packet delivery consistency. Target: Below 20ms.
- Packet Loss: Indicates how much data fails to reach its destination. Target: 0%.
These tools aim to help players diagnose and fix performance issues that can affect the quality of their gameplay. With real-time insights into network conditions, troubleshooting becomes easier and more efficient.
