Rockstar Games is growing again, this time by bringing Video Games Deluxe into the fold. The Sydney-based studio has worked with Rockstar for years, and now it’s officially becoming Rockstar Australia.
A Longtime Partnership Becomes Official
If you’ve played L.A. Noire or its VR spin-off, you’ve already seen Video Games Deluxe’s work. They handled the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire and developed L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, which adapted the detective thriller for virtual reality. More recently, they helped update Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for iOS, Android, Netflix, and modern consoles.
The connection between the two studios goes back even further. Before founding Video Games Deluxe, Brendan McNamara led Team Bondi, the studio behind the original L.A. Noire. Now, that long-running collaboration has become something more permanent.
“After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia,” said Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing at Rockstar Games.
The Future of Rockstar Australia
So, what’s the plan now that the team is officially part of Rockstar? There’s no official word yet, but given their background in remasters, VR, and game enhancements, it’s easy to imagine them working on similar projects in the future. Whether that means refining older Rockstar titles or helping with new releases, we’ll have to wait and see.
Video Games Deluxe founder Brendan McNamara also shared his thoughts on the acquisition. “It’s been an honour to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade,” he said. “We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”
Expanding Rockstar’s Global Reach
Rockstar Games continues to build its worldwide studio network, and adding an Australian branch strengthens that presence even more. While Rockstar Australia’s future projects remain unknown, their expertise suggests they’ll be making an impact soon enough.
We’ll keep an eye out for more news as Rockstar Australia settles in. What do you think this means for Rockstar’s future? Could we see more remasters, VR projects, or something completely different? Let us know your thoughts!
