The KONAMI PRESS START stream gave Silent Hill fans something they’ve been waiting on for a long time, real development insight into Silent Hill f. The segment included a detailed developer diary featuring the creative team at NeoBards, along with producer Motoi Okamoto and writer Ryukishi07. Together, they shared how Silent Hill f is embracing traditional Japanese horror, while still keeping the psychological themes that define the series.
The diary also confirmed something long speculated. A brand-new Silent Hill remake is officially in development. It was mentioned only briefly near the end of the stream, but it’s now confirmed by KONAMI.
With both projects in the works, Silent Hill fans have more than one reason to be excited.
Silent Hill f: Beauty in Terror and Japanese Horror Themes
The developer diary focused on how Silent Hill f is moving the series into full Japanese horror territory. Producer Motoi Okamoto explained that the project was born from a desire to recapture what made earlier Silent Hill games unsettling, while also pushing the series into a more culturally specific direction.
To help realize that vision, KONAMI partnered with NeoBards, a studio with experience working across Japanese projects. Writer Ryukishi07, known for his work on visual novels like Higurashi, is leading the story. The team described their goal as finding “beauty in terror,” blending disturbing imagery with striking atmosphere to leave a lasting impression.
As a longtime fan of the series, I liked hearing how much thought is going into the tone. It feels like Silent Hill f is being treated with care and a clear creative vision.
Designing the Setting and Storytelling Approach
The setting of Silent Hill f shifts the series away from its usual foggy American town and into Showa-era Japan. The developers highlighted how this time period allows them to explore older traditions, local superstitions, and quiet rural environments that feel both familiar and strange. Locations like candy shops, shrines, and old schools were specifically chosen to build a distinct sense of place.
The team also spoke about how Ryukishi07’s writing shaped the pacing and structure. Environmental storytelling, voice acting, and short in-game notes are all being used to deliver pieces of the narrative. They wanted to keep the story immersive without slowing down the gameplay. That setting already has me curious to explore every corner and see how it ties into the story.
The idea of exploring a decaying town filled with history and unease feels like the right match for Silent Hill. It sounds like the setting will do a lot of the heavy lifting.
A Silent Hill Remake Is in Development
Toward the end of the Silent Hill segment, KONAMI confirmed that a remake project is officially in development. While no trailer was shown, the announcement named Bloober Team as the studio behind it. The announcement came right after the Silent Hill f diary and was short, but it got the message across.
This isn’t the first time fans have speculated about a remake, but it’s the first time KONAMI has acknowledged one publicly during a major event. No platforms or release window were announced, but the remake is now officially in progress with a known developer.
It was a short moment in the broadcast, but hearing that Bloober Team is involved makes it feel more concrete. Silent Hill is coming back in more ways than one.
Why This Was a Big Moment for Silent Hill
KONAMI didn’t hold back with Silent Hill news. Between Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill remake confirmation, it finally feels like the series is moving again. The focus on Japanese horror, the “beauty in terror” theme, and the shift to Showa-era Japan all give Silent Hill f a new direction while still feeling rooted in what made the franchise stand out.
I’ve always liked Silent Hill for how it messes with your mind more than anything else. Seeing Ryukishi07 involved makes me hopeful that f will lean into that even more. And while the remake was barely mentioned, just hearing it confirmed was enough to make me pause the stream and replay that part.
