STORY: March 2022 NPD numbers have been released. Once again, Stadia claims more NPD chart topping multiplats in key charts vs peers

The National Purchase Diary (NPD for short)  is a great barometer to see what consumers are flocking to. The group’s focus is on North America purchases. However when it comes to gaming, the entries that make their monthly reporting are of the best performing products globally^.

The March 2022 NPD release within itself, was chalked full of surprises. These surprises included; an early release, CoD showing up ninth, and the amount of multiplat games dominating the charts.

It is the last item that serves as a perfect sagway into today’s main topic. That item is multiplatform games on the chart, that are also on cloud platforms. We have been doing these comparisons for a while. The compare results are the only thing that produced no surprises, base of prior ones. Based upon litmus’ of top purchased retail games for the month, year to date and rolling calendar period, here are the results:

  • CURRENT MONTH TOP 20 (CHARTING  MULTI PLATFORM GAMES)
    • Stadia – 33%
    • GFN – 11%
    • Luna – 11%
    • Xbox Cloud Streaming – 11%
  • YEAR TO DATE TOP 10 (CHARTING  MULTI PLATFORM GAMES)
    • Stadia – 20%
    • GFN – 20%
    • Luna – 10%
    • Xbox Cloud Streaming – 10%
  • ROLLING CALENDAR TOP 10 (CHARTING  MULTI PLATFORM GAMES)
    • Stadia – 44%
    • GFN – 11%
    • Luna – 11%
    • Xbox Cloud Streaming – 11%

As in prior consecutive months, Stadia has continued to lead each of the listed charts. This month did show the platform tie with GeForce Now on the Year to Date litmus. This was helped by the inclusion of GoW. Even though GoW wasn’t available on GFN until April, we decided to include.

Stay tuned as we continue to watch this space.
