The Best Retro Atari Games That We Would Love To See On Antstream Arcade

Antstream Arcade

Antstream Arcade is one of the most interesting cloud gaming platforms. Antstream focuses on offering retro games (1300+ of them, in fact), so there are tens of thousands of opportunities for even more retro games to arrive on the platform. One of the most notable publishers on Antstream Arcade is Atari, which bought a 10% stake in Antstream back in June 2023, so let’s break down some classic Atari-owned games that we would love to see become playable on Antstream Arcade.

Bubsy In Claws Encounters Of The Furred Kind:

Let’s start with what will probably be my most controversial pick on this list, Bubsy In Claws Encounters Of The Furred Kind. In this game, you play as a ginger bobcat called Bubsy, who can glide and also is one hit from death, including from fall damage; did I mention this is a platforming game by the way? Released in the early 1990s to compete with the likes of Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, this is the first of six games in the Bubsy franchise. Even though this game has received a mixed reception from those that have played it, there is a dedicated fan base who might be interested in checking out Antstream Arcade if they saw that Bubsy games are available. This is a game for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, so this game would easily be able to be emulated by Antstream.

Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest:

The next game on our list is Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest. In this platforming game for the Atari 7800, you play the beloved Atari character Bentley Bear from the video game Crystal Castles. After Bentley’s archenemy, Berthilda, steals the five crystals of life and hides them across the world, it’s up to Bentley Bear to find them. Be careful though; Berthilda isn’t working alone and has gathered many of Bentley’s foes since his adventures in Crystal Castles. This game is interesting as it started out as a fan project, which was later acquired by Atari. The game was developed for the Atari 7800, which is another system that is extremely easy for Antstream to emulate.

Astroblast Screenshot

Astroblast:

The third game on our list is a little more obscure, but it is indeed a fun one. In Astroblast, you must use your Earth defense turret to shoot down incoming asteroids as you try to reach a high score. This game was originally published by Intellivision under the M Network brand for the Atari 2600; however, the rights to Astroblast alongside twelve other games were bought by Atari from Intellivision in 2023. This game is extremely fun, and I can’t wait for the day when I can play this game on Antstream Arcade.

Demolition Racer:

This game is one of the more interesting ones. In Demolition Racer, winning the race doesn’t mean you’ll win the match. You must smash into competitors’ cars, breaking point boxes to gain points and place high in the rankings. This game was originally released on the PlayStation and Windows, so it would definitely be a fun game on Antstream. This game would be a perfect addition to the Antstream Arcade PlayStation lineup; hopefully, Atari and Antstream can work out a deal.

Antstream Arcade

Final Thoughts:

Now there is no guarantee that these games will ever arrive on Antstream Arcade, but with Atari owning a significant stake in Antstream, I do see the likelihood of the two companies deepening their partnership. Hopefully, we can see some more random and obscure retro games added to Antstream, whether they be from Atari or not.
