Ubisoft Has Also Cut Jobs At Several Other Studios

VGC has reported that Ubisoft has decided to close the UK-based studio, Ubisoft Leamington.

On top of this, they have also cut jobs at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm, and Ubisoft Reflections.

Ubisoft Leamington, in particular, was operating mostly as a support studio for Ubisoft. In a statement to VGC, Ubisoft said:

As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site.

“Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition”

This sad news comes after a very turbulent time for Ubisoft. After recently delaying Assassin’s Creed Shadows a second time, the company also confirmed it was looking at plans for a possible takeover or cash injection.

It is clear that Ubisoft very much needs Assassin’s Creed Shadows to have a smooth and successful launch. Cloud Dosage recently got a hands-on preview of the game, and you can read what 4SCARRSGAMING had to say about their game HERE.

Of course, Ubisoft is also a big supporter of cloud gaming. From the very beginning, they supported Google Stadia. They have also shown huge support for both Amazon Luna and GeForce NOW. They also just launched Ubisoft+ Classics on Blacknut.

On a broader scale, Ubisoft, of course, owns the cloud gaming distribution rights to Activision-Blizzard titles, something they acquired thanks to the UK CMA (Competition & Markets Authority). We also know that they expect to roll these titles out to their own cloud gaming service in early 2025.

Ubisoft tested their own cloud gaming service in August of last year. More recently, they also used their own cloud gaming service to provide media previews for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
