Volkswagen is bringing AirConsole in-car gaming to select 2027 vehicles in the U.S., launching with 20 games including Tetris, PAC-MAN Championship Edition and UNO Car Party. The vehicle’s infotainment display handles the game while compatible smartphones work as controllers when the vehicle is parked.
The rollout covers the 2027 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R and ID. Buzz. Volkswagen says it is the first volume automotive brand in the U.S. to offer AirConsole. Tetris is also making its North American debut as an in-car gaming experience through AirConsole with Volkswagen.
AirConsole Launches Across Six 2027 Volkswagen Models
AirConsole connects compatible smartphones to the vehicle through a QR code on the infotainment screen. Once connected, the phones become controllers for multiplayer and casual games.
Gameplay is unavailable while the vehicle is moving. AirConsole also requires a compatible infotainment system, vehicle connectivity, a compatible smartphone and acceptance of the applicable terms and conditions.
We covered AirConsole’s expansion to the Tata Sierra EV in June. Volkswagen’s announcement shifts the focus to the U.S., with AirConsole arriving across six vehicles in the company’s 2027 lineup.
Tetris and Volkswagen-Exclusive Games Join the 20-Game Library
Volkswagen says AirConsole will launch with 20 games. Tetris, PAC-MAN Championship Edition and UNO Car Party are among the games confirmed for the initial library.
Some games also interact with the vehicle itself. On compatible models and trims, certain games can trigger the ambient lighting during gameplay.
The rollout also includes Volkswagen-exclusive content. A custom version of PAC-MAN swaps power pellets for Volkswagen logos and uses Volkswagen vehicles in place of the usual bonus fruit. Golazo! and Memory Match will also feature Volkswagen-branded content.
AirConsole Access Runs Through In-Vehicle Premium
AirConsole is included with Volkswagen’s In-Vehicle Premium connected services package. Customers need to enrol an eligible vehicle through the myVW app before accessing it.
The 2027 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan and Golf models include three months of In-Vehicle Premium at no additional cost from the vehicle purchase date. The 2027 ID. Buzz includes one year.
After the complimentary period, an active In-Vehicle Premium subscription is required. Volkswagen prices the service at US$149 per year for model year 2027 vehicles.
