Antstream Arcade is a retro gaming cloud gaming platform that offers over 1300+ video games. One of the challenges Antstream faces is that over the last year Antstream Arcade has lost over one hundred games. Lets talk about how Antstream can improve on its game preservation goal by allowing users to purchase games.
Allowing Gamers To Purchase Retro Games Will Have Benefits:
The first thing I want to address is the fact gamers will most probably be willing to purchase copies of these retro games if the price is right. Some notable publishers on Antstream Arcade already sell several of their retro games on platforms like Steam. These include Atari and Piko Interactive. Adding their games with purchase options on Antstream would potentially lead to more retro gamers wanting to jump onto the gaming platform, which could also lead to more customers subscribing to Antstream. This in turn could also entice more game publishers to sell games on Antstream.
Some notable game publishers who recently pulled games from Antstream include Warner Brothers Games and Codemasters. This could lead to some backlash from Antstream fans who weren’t expecting big name titles like Mortal Kombat or Dizzy The Adventurer to be removed. By offering the ability to purchase games, it is more likely that there wouldn’t be as much backlash when games leave Antstream’s subscription service (assuming they can still be purchased).
Offering Game Publishers A Better Deal:
Lets be honest, nobody likes it when a video game is pulled from a digital game platform. But, if Antstream allowed users to purchase the games on its platform then it would be even better for deal publishers who are looking at better monetizing their classic video games. Game publishers like Namco, Piko Interactive and Atari (who owns 10% of Antstream) would probably become more open to long term licenses for their classic video games if Antstream allowed gamers the ability to buy copies of those same games for a reaonable price. This could also lead to Antstream becoming a more notable cloud gaming platform as the potential game offerings could practically double as you’d have publishers being able to negotiate with Antstream to offer some games as purchases and others as part of the Antstream subscription.
