Disney Games has partnered with Antstream Arcade to add classic video games based on popular Disney animated films like The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Aladdin. So what does this mean for the future of Antstream? Could we see more video games from Disney’s rich history added to the Antstream platform?

What Disney Games Have Been Added?:

So the first thing we have to establish is what Disney games have been added to Antstream, and the list may look small to start with but hear me out. Antstream has added the Mega Drive and SNES versions of Aladdin and the SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy games based on The Lion King and The Jungle Book. This is alongside LucasArts Games which have been on Antstream for years including games like Super Star Wars and Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures which also belong to Disney thanks to their 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm Ltd.

What Future Games Could We See Added?:

Now let’s go over the future games that could potentially be added to Antstream Arcade thanks to their licensing deal with Disney. I want to make a quick note before I go over some of these games that I won’t be mentioning games such as Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse or QuackShot Starring Donald Duck, as, whilst based on Disney characters, the games are published by Sega. Some of the notable games we could potentially see in the future include the game Toy Story and its SNES, Mega Drive, and Game Boy versions, Pinocchio for the SNES, Game Boy, and Mega Drive, as well as Pocahontas for the Mega Drive and Game Boy.

Also, likely candidates to join the Antstream catalogue include the PlayStation and Game Boy versions of Hercules Action Game, A Bug’s Life and its PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions, and Kim Possible: Revenge of Monkey Fist. We have to note, however, that many iconic games based on Disney properties aren’t published by Disney or, in the case of a large number of their games, published by THQ, whose assets were split up and sold off, so there’s no confirmation whether the games returned to Disney or are owned by someone else.

Will Disney’s Partnership With Antstream Be Successful?:

It’s no secret that Antstream has lost the rights to a large number of games over the last year, as we’ve seen notable game publishers like Warner Bros. Games, Interplay Entertainment, and Codemasters pull their libraries from the Antstream platform. There has also been talk that Piko Interactive is looking to withdraw its titles to build up its gaming platform, Bleem.net. Disney bringing a handful of games to Antstream has given me some level of hope that even when Antstream is facing the loss of hundreds of games, it can continue finding new titles to add that will keep its subscribers happy.
