Why Retro Gamers Should Try Antstream Arcade

Antstream Arcade is arguably one of the greatest cloud gaming platforms on the market, especially when it comes to a platform for those who want to play some classic games from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. So in this editorial, I want to give my opinion on why, as a 21-year-old gamer with a passion for games pre-2000, I think all retro gamers should give Antstream Arcade the chance to dazzle them. So let’s go.

The Number Of Retro Platforms Is Eye-Watering

This point is huge and shouldn’t be understated. Throughout gaming history, there have been hundreds of different gaming platforms where you could play different games. From handheld game consoles and arcades to microcomputers and home consoles, there are currently eighteen gaming platforms that have some of their libraries on Antstream Arcade. Some of the most notable platforms include MSX, Amstrad, Amiga, Arcade, NES, SNES, PlayStation, and the newly confirmed Pico-8, which are just a handful of the platforms you can experience on Antstream Arcade. This is a major thing retro gamers must consider, especially as a lot of these games risk becoming lost media or are scarce to collect due to the obscurity of most of them, as well as the hardware aging and breaking down with time.

The Availability Of Antstream Arcade Makes It Extremely Helpful

Antstream Arcade has a wide-reaching availability across modern-day platforms, which makes using the service so much more helpful. Antstream Arcade is available on Xbox One, Series X, and Series S alongside Android phones, Samsung Smart TVs, and Amazon Fire TVs, Nvidia Shield TVs, Windows PC and Mac, and iOS devices, oh and the Atari VCS as well. It was recently announced that it would be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles as well. Antstream is available on so many devices it means you can have the entire library on your TV, on your PC or even in your pocket at any given time, which is the glory of using a cloud gaming platform.

The Pricing Of Antstream Is Very Attractive

Right now I know the whole world has subscription fatigue, but I’m going to give you the numbers that Antstream costs (in GBP because Antstream is British) and then you can decide how undervalued the service actually is. So if you subscribe to Antstream Arcade directly through the Apple App Store on iOS, you will be paying £4.99 per month. If you subscribe via the website/app on Windows or Mac, you will pay £3.99 per month for your subscription. The price of Antstream Arcade on Xbox (and presumably PlayStation) consoles is £39.99 for a year or £99.99 for a Lifetime Pass. It should be noted, however, you can’t merge accounts, so if you subscribe on Xbox and on iOS, then you’ll be charged twice.

But What Games Are Available?

This last point is definitely the most important for a gaming platform, the games. Whilst Antstream doesn’t have games from the likes of Sega or Nintendo, they have a strong library of games from Namco, Taito, SNK, Atari, and Data East. Antstream’s game count at the time of writing this article sits at 1,330, which is an extremely high number when compared to services like Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox Game Pass, or PlayStation Plus. If you want to check out what Antstream can offer you as a retro gamer, then I recommend getting a one-month subscription to Antstream Arcade and checking out just how deep the catalog is.
