Some Big Improvements Could Be On The Way

In a new report from Windows Central, Xbox is said to be working on ‘next-gen cloud systems’ to improve the quality of Xbox Cloud Gaming. It also states that these systems are currently being tested at their HQ in Redmond, USA.

The report states that the new cloud platform being tested will reduce Xbox Cloud Gaming’s latency to a level similar to GeForce NOW.

‘Microsoft is also working on next-gen Xbox cloud systems, which are now in testing at Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond. The new cloud platform should bring its latency closer to parity with NVIDIA’s GeForce Now service, which is arguably the performance leader right now (and still integrates Microsoft’s Xbox / PC Game Pass). NVIDIA GeForce Now just launched a native app for the Steam Deck as well, presenting another competitor to Microsoft’s cloud gaming strategy. Microsoft was previously working on a cloud-first mini console dubbed Hobart, which was also cancelled.’

It may not come as a huge surprise that Xbox is looking to improve the quality of its cloud gaming systems. Xbox Cloud Gaming has a fantastic user experience and interface. It also comes as part of your Game Pass subscription, which provides instant access to a large catalogue of cloud-playable games.

Xbox has also been working very hard to expand its ‘stream your own‘ game library. This allows Xbox gamers to cloud stream the titles that they own across a range of devices. They also recently announced that the number of people playing their Xbox games in the cloud is at an all-time high.

If they can now improve the overall quality of their cloud gaming offering, in a time where consoles are going to become more expensive, then they could be on to a winning formula.
