Boosteroid has launched cloud gaming support for Raspberry Pi 4, with a dedicated Raspberry Pi OS image available to download now. The release comes just two weeks after its official Steam Deck app arrived on October 14. Raspberry Pi 5 support is coming later.
If you’ve got a Raspberry Pi 4 running retro games, working as a media centre or sitting in a drawer, there’s now another reason to fire it up. The new image lets you access supported games from your PC library on a Raspberry Pi 4 with at least 2 GB of RAM, without needing a separate gaming PC.
Boosteroid Releases a Dedicated Raspberry Pi OS Image
Boosteroid has put together a Raspberry Pi OS image with its cloud gaming client already included and configured. It’s listed separately from the service’s regular Linux downloads, and it’s made specifically for Raspberry Pi 4.
The download page specifies Raspberry Pi 4 with at least 2 GB of RAM. You’ll need an active Boosteroid subscription and access to the games you want to play. If a game requires a paid licence, you’ll need to own it through a supported storefront. The new image doesn’t change those requirements.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is an OS image, not a regular app. If your Pi 4 is already set up for other projects, it’s worth checking the installation process before making changes to it.
Raspberry Pi 5 Support Is on the Way
Boosteroid also plans to add Raspberry Pi 5 support, although there’s no release date yet. For now, Raspberry Pi 4 owners can download the dedicated image directly from Boosteroid’s website.
