Charting in the Clouds: Canada’s Best-Selling Games of 2024

A graph with an upward trend, a prominent red maple leaf, and a red game controller amidst clouds, symbolizes Canada’s best-selling games 2024.

Welcome to another installment of Charting In The Clouds!

Canada’s top-selling games of 2024 have just been revealed, and the results aren’t too surprising—Call of Duty, EA Sports titles, and major single-player hits all dominated the charts. The rankings, compiled by The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) and Circana, give us a clear look at what gamers across Canada were picking up last year.

Before we dive in, there are a few things to keep in mind. Nintendo’s digital sales weren’t included in this ranking, meaning games like Super Mario Party Jamboree and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom could have sold even more than reported. On top of that, digital sales from October to December weren’t counted for some Take-Two titles, including GTA V, WWE 2K24, and NBA 2K25. That means their final numbers could be even higher.

With services like GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Boosteroid, more players are ditching dedicated hardware and streaming their favourite games instead. Many of Canada’s biggest sellers are cloud-ready, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is playable via Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Boosteroid, while others still aren’t available in the cloud at all.

So, which of Canada’s biggest games are cloud-ready, and where can you play them? Let’s break it down.

How Cloud Gaming Shaped Canada’s Best-Sellers

Gaming hardware is getting more expensive, but cloud gaming isn’t backing down—it’s coming in elbows up. With more services expanding in Canada, platforms like GeForce NOW, Boosteroid, and Xbox Cloud Gaming are pushing to make high-end gaming accessible without dedicated hardware. Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Elden Ring, and Dragon’s Dogma II are available on these services. So, whether you’re on a budget or just prefer gaming on the go, cloud gaming makes it easier than ever to jump into some of the year’s biggest hits.

Multiplayer games are a huge part of Canada’s gaming landscape, and some of the biggest online hits are now cloud-ready.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 3 are fully playable via GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Boosteroid.
  • NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 25, and WWE 2K24 are all on Xbox Cloud Gaming, Boosteroid, and Shadow.
  • Helldivers II is available through PlayStation Cloud Gaming and Boosteroid Install & Play, offering another way to enjoy the game online.

Beyond just new releases, cloud gaming is also keeping classic titles in the spotlight.

Older Games Stay Relevant Through Cloud Streaming

Some of the best-sellers on this list are games that have been around for years. Titles like Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V are still charting, and cloud gaming is one reason why they refuse to fade.

  • Minecraft is accessible on Shadow and AirGPU, keeping it playable on a wide range of devices.
  • GTA V continues its massive presence, now fully playable via Boosteroid, Shadow, and PlayStation Cloud Gaming.

Is Cloud Gaming Changing How Canadians Play?

Cloud gaming isn’t replacing traditional game sales yet, but it’s offering more ways to play Canada’s best-sellers than ever before.

  • 16 out of the top 20 games are playable via cloud services.
  • GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Boosteroid lead in availability.
  • Multiplayer shooters, RPGs, and older games benefit most from cloud support.

As subscription services grow, will game sales rankings start shifting toward engagement-based metrics instead? Could cloud gaming eventually change how we track success in the gaming industry?

For now, one thing’s clear—the best-selling games in Canada are still going strong, and cloud gaming is making them more accessible than ever.
