Welcome back to the Canadian edition of Charting in the Clouds, our monthly look at Canada’s best-selling video games of August 2025. With fresh data from the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESA) and Circana, we’ve got a clear snapshot of Canadian game sales and what fans were buying in August.

This month’s rankings featured a strong mix of sports titles, returning franchises, and a few standout new releases. NBA 2K26 took the top spot, marking another strong year for Take-Two Interactive, which also claimed second place with Mafia: The Old Country. Madden NFL 26 followed closely behind, while Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Gears of War: Reloaded rounded out a busy top five.

As with previous months, Donkey Kong Bananza’s digital sales on Nintendo platforms were not included, meaning its total sales could be higher than reported.

We’ve also included cloud gaming availability again this month. Many of August’s top titles can be played in the cloud on platforms like GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Boosteroid. If you missed it, check out Canada’s Top-Selling Games of July 2025 to see what changed.

August’s chart saw NBA 2K26 claim the top spot even before its full release, driven by early access that began on August 29 for the Superstar and Leave No Doubt editions. Mafia: The Old Country followed closely behind, giving Take-Two Interactive a one-two finish at the top. Madden NFL 26 continued the sports momentum in third, while Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater landed in fourth after a strong launch week. Gears of War: Reloaded rounded out a competitive top five, adding another success for Microsoft.

Further down, Donkey Kong Bananza held steady in sixth following its July debut, despite missing digital sales data from Nintendo’s eShop. While Minecraft and Forza Horizon 5 remained chart regulars. Grand Theft Auto V reappeared yet again, proving its staying power over a decade after launch. Rounding out the list, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar brought a slower-paced alternative to an otherwise action-heavy lineup.

With early access sales, new releases, and returning best-sellers all competing for attention, August highlighted just how dynamic the market remains heading into fall.

August 2025 Wrap-Up and a Look Ahead

August showed how strong releases and familiar franchises can coexist on Canada’s charts. Take-Two Interactive led the month with NBA 2K26 and Mafia: The Old Country, while EA followed with Madden NFL 26 keeping the sports momentum going. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Gears of War: Reloaded rounded out an action-heavy top five, signaling that demand for classic reimaginings remains high.

Outside the top tier, Donkey Kong Bananza and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar kept Nintendo and Marvelous in the mix with family-friendly titles that offered a change of pace. Meanwhile, evergreens like Minecraft, Forza Horizon 5, and Grand Theft Auto V continued their long-running streaks, maintaining steady positions month after month.

We’ll be back next month with a look at Canada’s top-selling games for September 2025. With the fall release season approaching and several anticipated Switch 2 titles on the horizon, the next chart could look very different.
