Despite what social media comment sections often like to claim about cloud gaming, investors clearly see a thriving and profitable future for the technology. In a major development for the market, global digital infrastructure investment firm Digital Alpha has secured a shareholder stake in Blacknut, committing up to $215 million in funding. The massive backing is aimed at accelerating the global growth of Blacknut’s platform, powering infrastructure enhancements, catalog expansion, and deeper market reach worldwide.
Blacknut currently serves more than three million subscribers across 65+ countries, partnering with telecom operators, ISPs, and manufacturers. Its platform offers access to a catalog of over 1,000 games without requiring dedicated hardware. With this major capital funding, Blacknut plans to scale its infraestructure and expand its content lineup and its footprint across consumer devices and platforms.
A Partnership Beyond the Investment
Beyond a direct investment, the partnership allows for direct integration with Digital Alpha’s digital infrastructure portfolio. This includes access to Massed Compute, PacketFabric, Cloudian, and Qwilt. Because high-performance cloud gaming relies heavily on low-latency networks and high-density GPU capacity, Digital Alpha’s ecosystem gives Blacknut a technical advantage for scaling its infrastructure globally.
“This marks an important new chapter for Blacknut,” said Olivier Avaro, CEO and Founder of Blacknut. “Cloud gaming is rapidly becoming a critical distribution channel for the video gaming industry, and this investment reflects confidence in both our vision and our execution.”
Echoing that sentiment, Rick Shrotri, Founder and Managing Partner of Digital Alpha, highlighted the long-term utility of streaming infrastructure: “As investors across digital infrastructure, we see cloud gaming emerging as one of the most durable sources of demand for GPU capacity and edge networks. Olivier and the Blacknut team have built the commercially proven platform to capture it.”
While online discourse frequently dismisses cloud gaming as a gimmick, transactions of this magnitude prove that streaming is rapidly solidifying its place as a fundamental and lucrative distribution pillar for the video games industry.
