It has been confirmed that Forza Horizon 5 has surpassed 5 million units sold on the PlayStation 5. This marks an impressive milestone for the game, just around one year after it initially launched on Sony’s flagship game console.
Not only that, but it was also one of the best-selling titles on PS5 for 2025.
Forza Horizon 5 was one of the best-selling titles on PlayStation 5 in 2025, surpassing 5 million copies sold on the platform and earning widespread acclaim with a 92 Metacritic score. Praised for its stunning visuals, immersive open-world environments, and finely tuned gameplay mechanics, the game set a new benchmark in the racing genre.
The information has been provided by Virtous Games, who handled the porting of the PS5 version of the game. They have provided a ‘success story’ post on their website explaining just exactly how they made the PS5 version a reality.
Now, what makes this news even more significant at the moment is that there has been a lot of talk recently about the possibility that Xbox could make a return to exclusive titles. This has followed the arrival of Asha Sharma as the new head of Xbox. It should be said here that Asha has been doing a fantastic job of injecting excitement into the Xbox brand since she took the helm.
The sequel to Forza Horizon 5, Forza Horizon 6, was officially unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Game Show. The game is set to arrive on Xbox and PC next month, with the PS5 version set to follow at a later date.
Given that we now know that the PS5 version of FH5 sold over 5 million copies, would Xbox really make the move to lock its successor behind an exclusive wall and deny itself a solid stream of revenue? Let us be honest for a second. Outside of Game Pass, the PS5 is where Microsoft and Xbox are most likely set to make the most money from Forza Horizon 6.
In my opinion, the success of Forza Horizon 5 on the PS5 does not signify that Xbox should step away from their current multi-platform approach, but instead embrace and go deeper and instead make releasing titles from Xbox Game Studios day one on Sony’s console. I would even go further to say that they should also be really considering porting some of their titles to the Nintendo Switch 2.
There is definitely a lot of success to be had for Xbox Game Studios titles outside the Xbox ecosystem, and now that Xbox has that train firmly on the tracks, I for one certainly don’t think they should consider derailing it quite yet.
