Amazon is completely overhauling its cloud gaming service, Luna, with a major update set to roll out in the coming weeks. This strategic realignment positions Luna not as a niche gaming add-on. Instead, it is seen as a central, essential entertainment pillar for all Prime members, alongside Prime Video and Prime Music.
By dissolving the “Prime Gaming” brand and consolidating all its benefits into the new Luna Standard tier, Amazon is simplifying its offerings. They are making a clear statement that Luna is now the single destination for all Prime gaming perks. It eliminates the traditional barriers of expensive hardware and long downloads by letting you stream games instantly on the devices you already own.
Establishing Luna as a Core Prime Service
The entire restructure is designed to elevate Luna’s profile and make it indispensable to a broader audience. This is achieved by focusing on three key areas of value, all of which are included for free with an Amazon Prime membership:
1. The Rotating Video Games Library (Cloud Streaming)
Luna Standard will now grant Prime members free access to a rotating selection of over 50 full-featured games each month. This expanded library is expected to consistently feature high-profile, modern blockbusters.
- Elevating the Offering: Unlike previous smaller selections, the inclusion of modern AAA titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a deliberate move. It places the entertainment value of Luna in the same league as Prime Video, offering high-quality, current content as a basic membership benefit.
- Always-On Titles: Members will retain free, ongoing access to major free-to-play hits, most notably Fortnite.
2. GameNight: The Social Gaming Hub (Exclusive & Accessible)
Amazon is heavily emphasizing social, accessible gaming with the brand-new and exclusive GameNight hub. It includes a collection of over 25 party and casual games. This is key to onboarding non-traditional gamers and families.
- Lowering the Barrier to Entry: GameNight titles require no dedicated controller. Instead, players simply scan a QR code on the TV screen with their smartphone to join the game. This instantly turns any living room into a game night venue. This focus on mobile-as-controller technology is aimed at every household member.
- AI-Powered Exclusivity: The launch title, Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg, is an AI-powered courtroom game. It demos Amazon’s commitment to creating new, engaging, and exclusive content that can only be found on the Luna platform.
3. Unification of All Gaming Perks
The Prime Gaming brand is being officially retired, but its benefits are not disappearing. They are being directly folded into Luna Standard, completing the platform’s unification as the sole center for Amazon’s gaming ecosystem.
- Twitch and PC Games: All familiar perks continue seamlessly, including the free monthly Twitch channel subscription and expanded chat features. Additionally, there is a rotating selection of free monthly downloadable PC games that members can keep forever.
- Unified Identity: By moving all of these diverse perks—from cloud streaming to PC downloads to Twitch benefits—under one roof, Amazon aims to reduce customer confusion. They clearly establish Luna as the definitive, comprehensive gaming benefit of the Prime membership.
Access and Requirements
Luna operates entirely via the cloud, meaning you do not need to buy a dedicated console or gaming PC.
Compatible Devices
You can access the new Luna Standard platform instantly on a wide range of devices you already own:
- Amazon Devices: Fire TV Sticks, Fire Tablets, and Fire TV Cubes.
- Computers: Windows PC, Mac, and Chromebooks (via the Chrome web browser).
- Mobile: iPhone and iPad (via the Safari browser), and Android phones and tablets.
- Smart TVs: Select models of Samsung and LG Smart TVs.
Controller Overview
The required control method depends entirely on the game you choose to play:
- GameNight Titles: Only require a smartphone, which acts as the controller via a simple QR code scan.
- AAA/Blockbuster Games: Require a dedicated controller, such as Amazon’s own Luna Controller or any compatible Bluetooth controller (e.g., Xbox, PS5).
Internet Speed
Amazon recommends a sustained internet speed of at least 10 Mbps for streaming in 1080p quality. They advise a wired connection or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi band for the best, most consistent performance.
Luna Standard vs. Luna Premium
The new structure also clarifies the two service levels:
- Luna Standard (Free with Prime): This is the massive new baseline benefit. It includes the rotating library of 50+ blockbusters, the entire GameNight social hub, and all legacy Prime Gaming perks (Twitch sub, free PC games). It is best for casual gamers and families.
- Luna Premium (Optional Subscription): This paid upgrade (replacing the old Luna+) grants immediate, permanent access to the entire Luna library of over 100 titles. This is in addition to everything in Luna Standard. It is designed for dedicated gamers who want the broadest selection of cloud games.
The relaunched Amazon Luna, set to arrive in the coming weeks, represents a significant investment by Amazon. They aim to integrate high-quality, accessible gaming into the core value proposition of a Prime membership.

Make Premium 4K60/120 and maybe AV1! Then I would buy it immediately!
What you get for free with a Prime membership is great – never been better. But, not sure who pay for the premium subscription just for a little more games…
I assume playing gog ,ea and Unisoft games is getting canned as it has not been mentioned
It’s still there for now at least.
