An ambitious new open-source project is set to fill one of the most significant gaps in the cloud gaming ecosystem. Stratix, a native Apple TV client for Xbox Cloud Gaming, is currently in development. Promising a high-performance streaming experience for tvOS users, who have long been sidelined by the lack of an official Microsoft app on the platform.
Developed by Reddit user Hot-Resolution2310, Stratix is built from the ground up specifically for Apple’s hardware. Unlike previous workarounds that relied on web browsers or screen mirroring, this project uses custom-coded streaming technology designed for the Apple TV. This native approach allows for features that standard web versions can’t handle, including full rumble support for Switch and PS4 controllers and custom button mapping for the Xbox button.
The developer recently shared progress with the community, noting that the app is currently in a functional “alpha” testing state. Stratix is expected to be released on GitHub within the week. Allowing the community to help test and improve the project.

Key Features and User Experience
Stratix aims to provide a premium “console-like” interface that looks just like the official Xbox home screen. By pulling data directly from Xbox services, the app ensures your game library and categories are always up-to-date. To make things easier, the app uses a QR code login system and stays signed in automatically. So you don’t have to re-enter your password every time you want to play.
Other notable features include:
- Instant Loading: The app caches game titles and artwork locally, meaning the menu loads faster and feels responsive.
- Quick Shortcuts: By holding down the thumbsticks (L3+R3) or using the Play/Pause button on the Apple TV remote, players can pause the game or bring up a disconnect menu.
- Console Streaming: While built for cloud gaming, the developer expects the app to support “Remote Play,” allowing you to stream games directly from your own Xbox console.
- Future Roadmap: Future updates aim to support Apple’s “Continuity Camera” and microphones, which would bring native voice chat to the Apple TV gaming experience.

Improving Stream Quality
While the foundation is solid, the developer noted that fine-tuning the video quality is still a work in progress. Because the app handles the connection manually, the resolution currently shifts between 720p and 1080p depending on the network. To help with this, the project incorporates popular community tweaks from our beloved Better xCloud project. This way users have more ways to customize their stream for the best possible picture.
As an open-source project, Hot-Resolution2310 is looking for other devs to help polish the interface and fix early bugs. For Apple TV owners, Stratix represents the most promising path yet toward a native Xbox experience on the big screen.
