During Sony’s latest State of Play, Ubisoft officially announced Rayman Legends Retold, a 3D reimagining of the beloved 2013 platformer. Set to launch on October 1st, the game’s cloud gaming support has already been locked down for several major services. However, the game’s platform lineup features a glaring omission that raises serious questions about the future of one cloud service.
GeForce NOW and Blacknut Confirmed at Launch
Rayman Legends Retold will be available on day one on GeForce NOW and Blacknut. The game will be launching on PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam and the Epic Games Store. With GeForce NOW members able to stream their owned copies with top-tier performance.
While Xbox Cloud Gaming was not explicitly listed in the initial announcement, the game’s release on Xbox Series X|S makes it a prime candidate for Xbox Cloud. At the very least, players should expect to stream it via the “Stream Your Own Game” feature, provided they purchase the digital Xbox version.
The most shocking news about the platform lineup is what is not there: Amazon Luna. Historically, Amazon’s cloud platform has been built on Ubisoft, with the latter hosting the former’s Ubisoft+ subscription channel and ensuring almost all major titles ended up on the service.
The lack of Luna on the launch schedule is very concerning for the future of the platform. It fits Amazon’s recent pivot away from aggressive cloud gaming expansion and comes in the face of a huge wave of Ubisoft titles leaving the Luna service on June 10. For Luna subscribers, this omission could be the clearest sign yet that the partnership is winding down.
A Legend Rebuilt for Next-Gen
Led by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan (with support from Pastagames), Rayman Legends Retold transitions the classic franchise into stunning 3D. Players can team up with Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murphy in local couch co-op for up to four players. The game features:
- A brand-new story and fully voiced cinematics.
- A never-before-seen sixth realm and epic new boss battles.
- Four all-new rhythm-based musical stages.
- The return of the fan-favorite Kung Foot mini-game, complete with power-ups and customizable rules.
- An expanded soundtrack featuring tracks from original composer Christophe Héral and industry legend Grant Kirkhope.
Rayman Legends Retold will retail for $39.99 for the Standard Edition. In a generous move, all editions of the game will bundle Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. This classic 2D prequel has been updated to run at 4K resolution and 60 FPS, featuring modern quality-of-life improvements and haptic feedback support for compatible controllers.
