Amazon has surprise-launched Space Metal Mania exclusively on Amazon Luna, giving Prime members a new game that wasn’t part of the September lineup announced earlier this month. The rhythm-driven top-down shoot-’em-up is available now at no additional cost for Prime members.
Space Metal Mania features licensed music from Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, and Pantera. Up to four people can play together using a mix of phones and game controllers, while Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine voices the Commander.
Heavy Metal Tracks Drive the Shoot-’Em-Up Action
Space Metal Mania is a fast-paced top-down space shooter with rogue-lite elements. You fly through enemy swarms, dodge incoming fire, fight bosses, and collect credits to improve your ship. Power-ups, weapons, and defensive devices add more options during a run.
There are three difficulty levels, with runs moving through Combat encounters, Elite fights, and Planet Liberation missions. The heavy-metal hook carries directly into the action, with enemy waves, attacks, and boss encounters synchronized to the music.
Jan Pytlik, Head of Production for THQ Nordic Mobile GmbH, says enemy and boss patterns follow verses, breakdowns, and solos.
The track list includes Megadeth’s “Symphony of Destruction,” Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare,” Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper,” Mastodon’s “Teardrinker,” and Pantera’s “Walk.” Mustaine also provides dialogue and in-game callouts as the Commander.
Space Metal Mania draws from 1980s sci-fi and metal album art, with neon, cosmic fire, burning planets, and massive structures throughout the game.
Space Metal Mania Supports Four-Player Co-Op on Amazon Luna
Space Metal Mania supports up to four people in the same co-op session. Phones and game controllers can be used together, and you can also play on your own.
