Xbox Cloud gaming allows you to play hundreds of console, or PC, titles across a range of devices at no extra cost other than your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Membership. You can even play supported free-to-play titles such as Fortnite at no cost at all – i.e. you don’t even need a subscription or an Xbox/PC.
With so many games available on Xbox Cloud Gaming, it can be challenging to know where to start. Which games are worth your valuable time? Well, in all honesty, I would say all of them! However, let’s try to narrow it down to a handful of select titles that this author believes you should check out!
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
OK. So I am starting big here! As in three of the most epic RPG titles that you can play, all wrapped into one complete package!
Mass Effect Legendary Edition allows gamers to relive (or experience for the first time) the original Mass Effect trilogy which has been completely remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra-HD. On top of this, it also includes over 40 pieces of DLC from across the trilogy, including major expansions and various character customization options.
Whether you have never played a Mass Effect game before, or you are a returning veteran to the franchise, you certainly can’t go wrong by enjoying this Legendary Edition on Xbox Cloud Gaming. It is time to save the galaxy, Commander.
Forza Horizon 5
If you are a fan of the racing genre and vibrant open worlds, then Forza Horizon 5 is a title for you. Taking place in the picturesque landscape of Mexico, Forza Horizon 5 is packed with races and activities that will provide you with hours of action-packed content.
The world of Forza Horizon 5 is also constantly evolving. You will need to compete with tropical weather, dust storms and ever changing seasons which add a unique dynamic to the game.
Since launch, there have also been two expansion packs, the Hot Wheels and the Rally Adventure expansion. Although you would need to purchase these separately, both are fantastic and add many more hours of content to the game. Once purchased, these expansions can also be played via the cloud.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo is arguably the game that cemented Xbox’s place in the console gaming market. It is also arguably the game that defined the FPS genre. Halo: The Master Chief Collection not only includes the original Halo Trilogy (including the Anniversary Editions of Halo and Halo 2) but it also includes the Halo 3: ODST campaign as well as the epic FPS adventure that is Halo: Reach.
Add to this the fact that the Collection also features multiplayer – with over 120 maps and of course the famous “Forge Mode” which allows Halo gamers to create their own multiplayer maps with a huge array of options, then you could easily be looking at one of the finest collections available to play on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Vampire Survivors
I am not sure if there are many more games that are as perfect for Xbox Cloud Gaming as Vampire Survivors is. It is literally the perfect game to play on the go with a mobile device.
Sure, on the surface, the survival roguelike title may not look like an epic, graphical masterpiece. However, I can nearly guarantee that, once you scratch the surface of Vampire Survivors, you will find yourself engrossed in a highly addictive title that is hard to put down!
You also need to give a fed of credit to Poncle, who are the developers of Vampire Survivors as they have kept the game fed with a steady stream of updates and new content – which is fantastic.
Just one more go….
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
I debated with myself on whether to add this game to my list, but it is very hard to deny that Gears of War is an epic flagship franchise for Xbox.
Gears of War, like Halo, could have easily defined a console generation for Xbox. When this game originally launched on Xbox 360, it began an epic video game saga. It also provided gamers with not only a fantastic co-op title but also a great online multiplayer title – which again I believe was genre-defining for this type of game.
Of course, we can’t discuss Gears of War without highlighting one of the most fun video game weapons ever created, the Chainsaw Lancer. Trust me, the excitement you get from sneaking up on an enemy in Gears of War, especially online, and sawing them in half with the Chainsaw Lancer is extremely hard to beat!
If you have not done so already, then I really can’t recommend revving this one up on Xbox Cloud Gaming enough.
Final Thoughts
To be honest, the list above is just a small taste of the great collection of games that are available to play via Xbox Cloud Gaming. Some other special mentions have to go to games such as A Plague Tale: Requiem, Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Chivalry II, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and many more.
In conclusion, yes – I think the 5 games I have discussed are some of the most epic game gaming experiences that you will embark on. However, there are many many more games in the Xbox Game Pass catalog that are also cloud-enabled. You honestly can’t go wrong with any game that you choose to play in the cloud via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
