Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition Included with Discord Nitro as Partnership Officially Launches

Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro logos centered over a collage of video games and a Discord chat interface. The official partnership between Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro brings a direct Play button and new subscriber perks.

Xbox and Discord are effectively merging your friends list with your game library. After weeks of speculation, the two companies officially launched a partnership that brings a direct “Play” button to your social feed and reciprocal rewards for subscribers. As of today, May 11, 2026 , if you pay for Discord Nitro, you now get access to Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition at no extra cost.

In return, Xbox Game Pass members get monthly Discord currency and shop discounts. It is a massive shift that ensures you spend less time digging through menus and more time actually in a match with your squad.

Linking accounts enables the direct launch button

Account linking is the technical anchor for this whole update. Once you connect your Xbox profile to Discord, a new “Play” button appears whenever you watch a buddy stream a game in a channel. Clicking that button launches the game through Xbox Game Pass instantly.

This integration is essentially a dashboard for your library that sits right inside your chat app. Because you can see exactly what your friends are doing, the barrier to entry for a quick round of a multiplayer game is almost gone. It makes the social side of the hobby feel functional rather than just a place to talk.

Xbox Cloud Gaming makes social launching fast

Since Xbox Cloud Gaming is included in the main Game Pass tiers, this social integration is a significant win for cloud gamers. You don’t have to wait for a massive download if you’re jumping into a game on a mobile device or a browser. The launch process is fast and responsive, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to join a friend’s active session.

Getting into a game directly from a friend’s activity feed removes the usual friction of opening a separate launcher. It changes the routine of how you start your gaming sessions. You can go from watching a stream to playing that same game in just a few seconds without ever leaving the Discord interface.

Soon Subscribers receive monthly Discord Orbs and shop multipliers

The perks for Xbox Game Pass members focus heavily on Discord’s internal economy. Coming soon, you’ll get 250 Discord Orbs every single month just for staying subscribed. On top of that, you’ll see a 1.2x multiplier on any extra Orbs you earn through Discord Quests. Discord is even throwing in automatically applied shop discounts for anyone with an Xbox subscription.

You’ll be able to use these Orbs to pick up profile effects or avatars to ensure your presence in your favourite servers looks right. If you’re already paying for Game Pass, checking your rewards hub is a great way to grab these customization options without spending any extra cash. Xbox and Discord are clearly trying to make both subscriptions feel like a required pair for social gamers.

Discord Nitro members gain entry to the Xbox library

If you’re on the Discord Nitro side of things, you’re gaining access to a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass in supported regions. We’re still waiting on the full list of games included in this specific tier. Currently its only be announced as “including a library of 50+ PC and console games you can download and play anytime you want.” However, it provides a good way to test the catalogue.

With 10 hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming included, the starter perks are more than enough to see how well Xbox Cloud Gaming performs on your home internet. It gives you a practical look at the service before you decide to commit to a higher tier. This partnership is a smart move for both companies as they try to lock gamers into their specific social and gameplay ecosystems.
