Amazon Luna lost the games Heave Ho and Monster Boy (a favorite game of ours here at Cloud Dosage) in just the last few days. The service has lost 64 games recently. Two of the promised November Luna+ games are still AWOL (Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning and Severed Steel). Luna could really have used a win in February. But, it doesn’t look like that is in the cards. We had previously reported on a signficant number of games leaving Feb. 8-10, but today we found a large batch of games just got scheduled to leave on the 27th as well!

Where is Luna headed?

With the two other recent exits, that comes to a total of 56 games leaving in February alone! It’s hard to imagine how an Amazon service can’t afford to keep Pong on the books… I don’t take this statement lightly, but it appears that the writing is on the wall for Amazon Luna – and it isn’t an optimistic story being written at the moment. This loss of games will put the service below the 175 mark across their entire catalog comprising three channels – note that we count Capcom Arcade Stadium as a single title as other platforms do. Amazon gave Luna+ subscribers a temporary reprieve by closing two of its other channels and merging their games into Luna+, but that is proving to be a short-lived boon.

If the service plans to make a comeback, now would be an opportune time to present it. Perhaps support for Fortnite could provide the shot in the arm that is needed. For now, the best use of Amazon Luna appears to be via the Ubisoft+ channel, which continues to get new Ubisoft titles and gives users access to Ubisoft connect features like achievements, multiplayer and friend’s lists (all of which are missing on Luna+). In addition, you can play games you own via Ubisoft connect in the cloud on Luna for free if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber.

As always, don’t forget to keep an eye on our Twitter and Mastodon accounts in order to be up-to-date.

Update (Feb. 7) – Added a link to a precise list of 64 games that have already left the service in recent months. Combined, this will yield a total of 118 games leaving the service by the end of February.
