Community Fibre is bringing more than 300 cloud games to television customers in London through an upgraded service powered by Netgem PLEIO. The new Community Fibre TV experience uses a second-generation 4K streaming device and includes a Bluetooth gamepad. Customers can play games directly on their televisions without a console.
The upgrade builds on a five-year partnership between Community Fibre and Netgem. Alongside cloud gaming, the service includes live television through Freely and more than 150 additional channels. Android TV also provides access to popular streaming apps.
Community Fibre TV Adds PLEIO Cloud Gaming
Community Fibre has offered television through Netgem for years. The move to PLEIO brings a much bigger cloud gaming catalogue into that existing service. Netgem reports that the upgraded package includes more than 300 games, along with a Bluetooth controller.
The second-generation PLEIO 4K Puck connects to a television through HDMI and streams content over Wi-Fi. The controller pairs with the puck through Bluetooth. Customers can access the cloud gaming catalogue without connecting a separate gaming PC or console.
The games sit within the same television interface as live channels and streaming apps. Customers can switch from watching something to playing a cloud game without changing devices or connecting additional equipment.
Live TV and Streaming Join the Gaming Package
For regular television, the new service integrates Freely. It brings live and catch-up programming from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. PLEIO also offers more than 150 additional thematic and free ad-supported streaming channels.
The television content arrives over Wi-Fi rather than through a rooftop aerial or satellite dish. For households without an aerial connection, that removes one piece of equipment from the TV setup.
Android TV provides access to apps including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV. Universal search lets customers find programmes across supported apps, while Google Assistant provides voice navigation. Paid streaming apps still require their own subscriptions.
PLEIO Expands Through Another UK Broadband Provider
Earlier this month, we covered Vodafone TV’s launch in the UK with more than 300 PLEIO cloud games. That service also brings together cloud gaming, Freely and streaming apps, although it is a separate offering from Community Fibre TV.
Community Fibre’s situation is different because Netgem has already supplied its television technology for five years. The latest upgrade brings PLEIO’s cloud games into that existing partnership, alongside the updated television experience.
For London households interested in the upgraded TV package, Community Fibre’s postcode checker lets them check broadband availability. They can then see which TV options are available when building their package.
