Dreamlands has launched on Google Cloud Marketplace with AI tools for creating and editing 3D environments. A three-person studio is using it to recreate Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice inside Fortnite. The project will let fans write dialogue, stage scenes and watch characters perform their stories.

Google Cloud announced the launch during its Gemini at Work event on October 8, 2026. The Fortnite project comes from Whenere, founded by novelist Neal Stephenson and veteran game artist Karen Laur. They’re using Dreamlands and Google’s Gemini technology to recreate locations from Austen’s novel. Their current focus is Mr. Bingley’s Netherfield Park estate.

Dreamlands Brings 3D Asset Creation to Google Cloud Marketplace

Dreamlands can turn text descriptions, images and reference materials into editable 3D assets. Artists can review each result, adjust materials and bring finished objects into Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

Netherfield Park needs hundreds of objects, from chairs and curtains to smaller decorations. Creating that many pieces from scratch would be a huge job for Whenere’s three-person team.

Google Cloud reports that one artist created 249 production-ready assets in one day using Dreamlands. Google also reports that generating a texture takes about seven seconds. It puts model inference below 10 cents per texture operation. That figure isn’t the full cost of using Dreamlands.

Laur remained in control of the design. She selected the historical references and reviewed each concept before production. For matching wooden furniture, she could direct Dreamlands to adjust the colour and finish across multiple pieces. That avoided reworking every object by hand.

Whenere Recreates Pride and Prejudice Inside Fortnite

Whenere is using Unreal Editor for Fortnite as a stage for Austen’s characters. Combat isn’t part of the planned experience.

People will be able to write dialogue through a web-based editor and arrange characters in their scenes. They can watch a performance inside Fortnite or record it to share as a video. The idea is to let fans create their own stories rather than play through a traditional Fortnite match.

Laur told GamesBeat that Austen’s work was a practical starting point because it’s in the public domain. That means the studio can work with its characters and settings without having to license them.

The team has plans beyond Pride and Prejudice. Whenere wants to use the same approach for other fictional worlds, giving fans a way to tell stories in settings they already know.

Cloud-Based Tools Give Small Studios New Development Options

We’ve previously covered Jack Buser’s vision for AI-powered living games and the cloud infrastructure those experiences could require. Dreamlands tackles a different part of game development, using Google’s cloud technology to help artists create detailed environments.

The technology supports game creation rather than streaming gameplay to a device. For small studios like Whenere, that means being able to produce detailed locations without building every object from scratch.

The Netherfield Park project also demonstrates how artists can remain involved when AI handles much of the repetitive work. Laur still decides what belongs in each room and how the finished environments should look.

Dreamlands is available now through Google Cloud Marketplace, but Whenere’s Fortnite experience remains in development. The studio is preparing its first closed playtest and hasn’t announced a public launch date.
