Everything you need to know about Hot Wheels Unleashed: Game of the Year Edition

Hot Wheels Racing Unleashed: Game of the Year Edition just did a hot drop on Stadia Pro. Fans of Stadia have been waiting for a new racing game for a long time, and this is a REALLY good one. That Stadia didn’t just get a hot drop, but also the best version of a stellar racing game is a big win for fans of the platform.

At the same time Playstation also announced on their blog that they too would be releasing Hot Wheels Unleashed to Playstation Plus members. Interestingly, this does NOT include the Game of The Year Edition content. It’s simply the base game, which retails for $49.99 USD. The Game of The Year Edition is available on the platform, but retails for a whopping 89.99 USD. If you’re wondering, that’s the value of 9 months of Stadia Pro.

The extra content being included for Stadia Pro members is substantial too. The Hot Wheels DLC contains cars, challenges and extra tools for customizing tracks in the highly-detailed track editor. These customizations give you some amazingly creative options when you’re making your tracks and their inclusion here is a joyous one.

If you don’t want to read all that, it lists 28 vehicles, 9 customization packs, and 9 Track Builder modules
To top it off, you’re also getting three car packs. These packs seem to have been pre-order bonuses and are no longer available for individual purchase, so I had to Google them. Anyways, let’s explore them…

There’s the “Beefed Up” Pack…

The Sportscars pack…

And the Street Beasts pack, which I couldn’t find an image for, but here are some screenshots…

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, however. The Stadia version appears to lack crossplay. And while its great that we have the game now, the seasonal content that has been releasing over the last year is no longer available, so Stadian’s just lose out. In defense, this is true of other versions as well. When the seasonal content is gone, it seems to be gone forever. But this point is poignant on Stadia, where players simply never got a chance at the content at all. And before you ask, yes, the content was awesome. It included cars from Jurassic Park, DC and SpongeBob.

Even without that sweet, sweet crossover goodness, we are getting a great game here at a fantastic value. With the release of this and Fifa 23, Dragon Ball Z DLC and a new season of Super Animal Royale, its a good time to be a Stadia fan.
