Netflix is hiring an Executive Producer to oversee its Mainstream, Narrative & New Experiences games portfolio. Posted October 10, the opening calls for a production leader to manage producers and guide multiple games through development and beyond launch.
Netflix Vice President Jeet Shroff shared the job opening on LinkedIn. Netflix’s wider games business includes both mobile games and games streamed through its app.
Netflix Wants an Executive to Oversee Its Games Portfolio
The Executive Producer will work with the portfolio’s general manager to put its games strategy into practice. Netflix wants someone who can lead a team of producers, coordinate with other departments and outside studios, and keep development projects on schedule.
The responsibilities also cover budgets, quality, production risks and updates to stakeholders. The role includes live operations, so the work continues after a game launches. They’ll also help decide whether game features match what the intended audience wants to play.
Netflix requires at least 15 years of video game production experience, including development, publishing and live operations. Candidates should have managed portfolios of different sizes, from smaller teams to AAA projects. Experience working with external developers and understanding first-party platform requirements is also on the list.
Shroff’s LinkedIn announcement mentions sports, established entertainment worlds and new types of interactive entertainment. Those are areas Netflix wants to explore, not announcements of specific upcoming games.
Netflix Is Also Building Its Cloud Gaming Infrastructure
The production opening follows another Netflix leadership vacancy we covered in September. The company was looking for a Director, Cloud Gaming Infrastructure to oversee technology behind its streamed games. The position covered operating system software, streaming technology and support for more simultaneous users. The role also involved a significant investment in equipment for the cloud gaming platform.
The infrastructure director would oversee the technology running Netflix’s cloud games. This Executive Producer would manage development and production across Netflix’s games portfolio, which isn’t described as cloud-only.
We’ve already seen Netflix explore story-focused games in the cloud with Unhinged. Night School Studio’s short horror game streams to televisions and computers, with a phone handling controls, calls, messages and the flashlight. The phone becomes part of what happens in the game, rather than just replacing a controller.
In July, we reported comments from Night School director Sean Krankel to The Game Business about Unhinged’s audience. He said it had reached people new to Netflix Games, including some who hadn’t tried a cloud game before. Netflix hasn’t shared audience totals for that group.
The new job listing doesn’t name the games its Executive Producer will supervise. Netflix is accepting remote candidates in the United States, with Los Angeles preferred and regular travel to the city required.
