With the impending demise of Google’s cloud gaming Platform Stadia, a lot of people are wondering what is going to happen to their games and save files. This article will be constantly updated with new information from game developers.

Google have said that they will be refunding all purchases of games, DLC and in game currency by the closure date. However transferring game saves is up to the developers. There is the option of Google Takeout, but that may not work for every game and is only an option if you are playing on a PC.

This is the list of games that have officially announced support to users regarding their games and Stadias closing.

Bungie

Destiny 2 has offered cross-play and cross-progression for a long time. Our contributor EddyRick recently put out a fantastic article on how to activate cross-progression on you Bungie account which can be found here. It is worth noting that whilst Season passes do transfer, DLC purchases are tied to your platform and will need to be re-purchased.

Rockstar Games

Red Dead Online publishers Rockstar games have recently confirmed that you will be able to transfer your online save to other consoles. All Experience, money and gold bars will also transfer across if you were an active player upto 30 days before Stadias announcement.

CDPROJEKT RED

CDPROJEKT RED have announced the official way to transfer your Cyberpunk 2077 saves from Stadia to PC. This method does involve using Google’s Takeout service, and will not transfer to consoles.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft have always been a big supporter of Stadia and cloud gaming in general. They recently sent out this tweet;
“While Stadia will shut down on January 18th, 2023, we’re happy to share that we’re currently working to bring the games you own on Stadia to PC through Ubisoft Connect,” said Ubisoft senior corporate communications manager Jessica Roache. “We’ll have more to share regarding specific details as well as the impact for Ubisoft+ subscribers at a later date.”

This will not impact your refunds that Google have said they will be honouring by the 18th of January. Unfortunately, only Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Riders Republic and Immortals Fenyx Rising currently support cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect. Hopefully Ubisoft will add more games to the list.

Bedtime Digital Games

Figment was released onto Pro a couple of years ago. The developers, Bedtime Digital Games, recently put out this message into the Stadia subreddit giving players the chance to get a free copy of Figment. Again, this will not impact your refund from Google.

Microsoft/Bethesda

The Elder Scrolls Online was one always a popular game on Stadia because you could quickly hop on anywhere to open chests etc. And people will have spent a lot of money on expansions. Fortunately, Bethesda released this statement saying that all games saves will be transferred over to PC as well as all purchases, meaning you won’t need to spend anything to continue playing. This is even sweeter as Google will still be refunding your purchases!

Muse Games

Embr is one of the most fun games I’ve played on Stadia. The mix of humour and action made the game something special. Muse Games sent out this tweet for all of us wanna be firefighters giving us a way to keep fighting those fires and making money. As of writing this article, there is no words on an official way to transfer your game saves other than trying the Takeout service, but if one is brought up I will update the article to reflect the changes.

IO Interactive

IO Interactive are currently looking into ways to allow us to continue our HITMAN experience on other platforms as per this tweet. Once something concrete is sorted, this will be updated.

Tequila Works

Stadias first exclusive game Gylt is going multi platform! This is great news as the game is something special that everyone should have chance to play. There are currently no words on save transfers so you might want to brave the game and finish it before the 18th Of January.

Fishing Cactus

Epistory and Nanotales developer Fishing Cactus recently tweeted that they will provide Steam codes free of charge if you get intouch with proof of purchase.

Splash Damage

This is the second Stadia exclusive game on the list, but it does not have a positive future like Gylt. Unfortunately, because Outcasters was built for Stadia, releasing the game on other platforms is not possible. The developers put out this tweet confirming that once Stadia closes on the 18th of January, Outcasters will no longer be available to play.

Red Hill Games

The first person shooter 9-5, with its unique 3v3v3 game mode has stopped development. No new patches or seasonal content will be coming to either Stadia or Steam. The servers will remain on until the 18th of January. Whilst they have not said it is due to the closure of Stadia the dates do make it seem likely.

I have reached out to more developers and as soon as they let me know or any others give any other information regarding game saves and licence transfers we will update this article. If I have missed any, let me know in the comments.
