AMD FSR 4.1 Is Coming to XBOX Series X|S and Hits RX 6000 GPUs

AMD has expanded FSR Upscaling 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and selected Ryzen processors. XBOX Series X|S consoles are next. Compatible PC owners can access the machine-learning upscaler through AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1. An exact XBOX release date hasn’t been announced.

FSR uses machine learning to reconstruct images rendered at lower resolutions. The goal is better image quality without the cost of rendering every pixel at full resolution. AMD is bringing that approach to more gaming handhelds, too.

FSR 4.1 Is Coming to XBOX Series X|S

AMD has worked with the XBOX team to optimize FSR Upscaling 4.1 for XBOX Series X|S. XBOX Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Vliet discussed the collaboration in AMD’s announcement video. Developers can use it to improve image quality and performance in supported games.

XBOX Series S could especially benefit because it has less graphics processing power than Series X. Games will need FSR 4.1 support before gamers see the benefits.

XBOX Cloud Gaming could benefit as well. The service uses custom Series X server equipment. Upscaling happens before the picture is encoded for streaming. Compatible cloud games could therefore benefit on XBOX’s servers, even when you stream them to a less powerful device.

FSR 4.1 hasn’t been confirmed for XBOX Cloud Gaming, so the benefit remains hypothetical.

AMD and ASUS are optimizing FSR 4.1 for ROG XBOX Ally handhelds. Support is also expanding to devices with Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, and Ryzen Z2 A processors. Availability depends on manufacturers providing compatible drivers. AMD’s Adrenalin 26.10.1 package doesn’t directly support handheld gaming devices.

Radeon RX 6000 Support Arrives on PC

Radeon RX 6000 owners can now access FSR Upscaling 4.1 in compatible games without replacing their graphics card. AMD has optimized the upscaler for RDNA 2 graphics cards, ranging from the RX 6900 family to the RX 6400.

AMD says its machine-learning upscaling can improve image stability and reduce visual artifacts. Actual results depend on the game and graphics card.

Driver 26.10.1 also adds support for Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 Series and Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 Series processors. It is FSR 4.1’s first expansion to these integrated graphics.

Boosteroid also uses AMD graphics cards. Its cloud servers include customized Radeon RX 7900 XT GPUs, from the RX 7000 family supported by FSR 4.1 since June. AMD confirmed that Boosteroid uses FidelityFX Super Resolution as part of the companies’ partnership.

Boosteroid hasn’t confirmed FSR 4.1 on its servers. Support for the consumer RX 7900 XT doesn’t establish support for Boosteroid’s custom configuration.

Project Amethyst Connects AMD and PlayStation

AMD’s latest work builds on its Project Amethyst collaboration with PlayStation. The research has already contributed to improved AI upscaling on PlayStation consoles and Radeon graphics cards.

PS5 Pro uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). An upgraded PSSR model released this year draws on neural-network research developed with AMD. The standard PS5 now has Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), with a streamlined model.

Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei received QSSR options in updates on October 1, 2026. We’ve also confirmed that QSSR works when supported PS5 games are streamed through PlayStation Cloud Gaming. PSSR, QSSR, and AMD’s FSR are different implementations of related AI graphics research.

XBOX is already looking beyond its current consoles. During AMD’s presentation, Van Vliet confirmed that Project Helix, the next-generation XBOX project, will use AMD’s upcoming FSR Diamond technology.

AMD is improving frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation, expanding Ray Regeneration support, and preparing Vulkan compatibility. The PC driver is available now. There’s still no confirmed date for FSR 4.1 on XBOX Series X|S games.
