MIPCOM Cannes kicks off today, October 12, bringing television, streaming and entertainment companies together in France. Blacknut is taking part in the four-day event, with CEO and founder Olivier Avaro scheduled to speak on October 14 about keeping subscription customers engaged.
Avaro will join a panel called “Winning Subscribers, Then Earning the Renewal: An Operator’s Eye View.” The discussion will focus on what happens after customers sign up for an entertainment service and how companies can encourage them to stay and renew. MIPCOM Cannes runs through October 15 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
Blacknut’s Focus on Keeping Subscribers Engaged
Blacknut has been expanding its cloud gaming service across Smart TVs and telecom platforms, giving people more ways to access its catalogue. But getting someone to subscribe and keeping them interested are two different challenges.
That’s what Avaro will be discussing at MIPCOM Cannes. He’ll talk about how entertainment services can encourage subscribers to keep coming back and renewing. For Blacknut, the discussion comes after a period of subscriber growth and new partnerships across connected entertainment platforms.
Blacknut’s Subscriber Growth and TV Partnerships
Avaro has spoken about Blacknut’s growth before. During an August 31 interview on BFM Business, he reported more than 3 million subscribers worldwide. He also said the company’s subscriber base had tripled over the previous year.
That growth has been accompanied by new television and telecom partnerships. Blacknut became available on VIZIO OS and Whale TV, while Totalplay brought the service to customers in Mexico. These deals put Blacknut on devices and platforms people already use for entertainment.
More recently, Vodafone TV launched in the UK with more than 300 cloud games through Netgem’s PLEIO platform. Blacknut is also available through Google Play on the Vodafone TV box, offering its own catalogue of more than 1,000 games.
PLEIO comes included with Vodafone TV for eligible customers, while Blacknut requires a separate subscription. It’s a recent example of how Blacknut is reaching customers through existing television services rather than relying entirely on direct sign-ups.
Avaro’s MIPCOM Cannes panel begins Wednesday, October 14, at 2:45 PM local time.
