Charting in the Clouds: Canada’s Top-Selling Games of 2025

A graph with an upward trend, a prominent red maple leaf, and a red game controller amidst clouds, symbolizes Canada’s top-selling games of May 2025.

Welcome back to the Canadian edition of Charting in the Clouds. This time we are zooming out for a full-year look at Canada’s top-selling video games of 2025.

New figures from the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) and Circana power this breakdown. You now get a clear picture of which games actually moved at Canadian retailers over twelve months.

The list is packed with familiar names. Battlefield 6 finishes the year at number one, with NHL 26, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Borderlands 4 close behind. You also see big series like EA Sports FC 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and NBA 2K26 high on the chart, showing how much 2025 revolved around shooters, sports, and large RPG-style adventures.

One of the most interesting parts is how strong the Canadian connection is. Four of the top six games involve Canadian studios in key roles. Battlefield 6 and NHL 26 both lean on EA teams based in Canada, EA Sports FC 25 has Canadian development in the mix, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 includes work from Canadian support studios. ESAC also notes that video games now contribute more than $5.5 billion to Canada’s GDP every year, which lines up with how often Canadian-made projects show up in this chart.

Because this is Charting in the Clouds, we are also looking at where these games fit into cloud gaming. Many of Canada’s 2025’s biggest sellers can already be played through services like GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Boosteroid.

Let’s dig into Canada’s top-selling games of 2025 and see how the full list came together. These rankings are built on physical retail sales. Nintendo’s digital store data is not included, so some titles may have done even better than this list shows.

Canada’s 2025 Rankings

Looking across the full top 20, you can see how 2025 mixed new releases with comfort picks that never really left rotation. Battlefield 6, NHL 26, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Borderlands 4 point to a year where big online battles, hockey nights, and loot-driven co-op stayed at the centre of a lot of gaming time.

The middle of the list shows how much trust long-running series still have. EA Sports FC 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, NBA 2K26, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered sit alongside Ghost of Yōtei and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. You get a mix of established names and newer stories, but most of them come from series you already know well.

The back half of the chart is where older favourites show how strong their legs still are. Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption II, Civilization VII, and Forza Horizon 5 all kept selling through 2025. Nintendo entries like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Donkey Kong Bananza still made the list even without digital data included, which says a lot about how quickly that audience shows up at retail.

Cloud Availability and Hybrid Setups

On the cloud side, the split feels pretty clear. A big group of these games can already be played on GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, Boosteroid, and similar services, especially the shooters and multiplatform RPG-style releases. At the same time, Nintendo titles and a few other games still live entirely on local hardware, so a hybrid setup makes the most sense if you want to follow the whole chart through cloud gaming.

Now that the 2025 rankings are out, the interesting part will be watching how 2026 compares. New hardware, live service updates, and follow-ups to several of these games are already lining up. For now, this top 20 gives you a clean snapshot of how Canadians played in 2025, from cloud-friendly shooters and sports seasons to long-lived open worlds and Nintendo favourites.
