Charting in the Clouds: Canada’s Top-Selling Games of August 2026

Charting in the Clouds August 2026 graphic featuring NBA 2K27, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Welcome back to the Canadian edition of Charting in the Clouds, where we look at Canada’s top-selling games and where you can play them in the cloud. NBA 2K27 takes the number one spot for August 2026, even though only Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners could play it early. The Standard Edition didn’t launch until September 4. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes in second, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in third.

There’s been quite a change since July. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is already out after topping last month’s chart, and six other games have disappeared with it. Grand Theft Auto V, MLB The Show 26, and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream are the only three that remain. PlayStation also has four games in August’s top 10.

Nine of August’s top 10 have at least one cloud gaming option. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the only exception.

Let’s take a closer look at Canada’s top-selling games for August 2026.

NBA 2K27 Takes First Ahead of Its September Launch

Early access for NBA 2K27 began August 26, leaving only a few days before the month ended. That makes the number-one ranking particularly interesting. Circana doesn’t break down how purchases of early-access editions or pre-orders contributed to it.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes in second after launching August 6. We mentioned the Marvel fighting game in July’s look ahead, and now it’s PlayStation’s highest-ranked game for August. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is right behind it in third, putting PlayStation games in both spots below NBA 2K27.

Elden Ring Enters Fourth as Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Reaches Fifth

Elden Ring takes fourth in August, the same month Elden Ring Tarnished Edition launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28. New content also arrived for other platforms. Circana doesn’t separate sales by platform, so we can’t say how much that Nintendo Switch 2 launch contributed.

Just behind it, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 enters at fifth after launching August 27. It includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, with Metal Gear: Ghost Babel as bonus content. That puts two games with late-August launches in fourth and fifth.

Grand Theft Auto V drops from fourth in July to sixth in August. It’s still higher than its tenth-place finish in June, and that makes three consecutive months in Canada’s top 10.

PlayStation Has Four Games as Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Reaches Five Months

Helldivers II takes seventh. It joined the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on August 12, the same day its Devoid of Liberty update arrived. We can’t tell from the rankings whether either development had any effect on sales.

MLB The Show 26 climbs from tenth in July to eighth. It missed June entirely, so that’s two straight months back in the top 10. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream goes the other way, dropping from sixth to ninth. It’s been on the chart for five straight months now, starting with second place back in April. Nintendo’s digital sales aren’t counted, either.

Marvel’s Spider-Man closes August’s chart at tenth. Alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, that makes three Marvel games in the top 10. Helldivers II brings PlayStation’s total to four.

Resident Evil: Requiem is also gone after six consecutive months in the top 10. Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online, Splatoon Raiders, Red Dead Redemption II, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and Halo: Campaign Evolved all dropped out as well.

August 2026 Wrap Up and Look Ahead

September’s chart will tell us how NBA 2K27 did once the Standard Edition launched, and whether August’s PlayStation games stayed in the top 10. We’ll cover those results in the next Charting in the Clouds.

Which of August’s top 10 did you play? Were you playing locally or in the cloud?
