Welcome back to the Canadian edition of Charting in the Clouds, our monthly look at Canada’s top-selling games and the latest Canadian game sales trends. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is number one for July 2026, followed by Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online and Splatoon Raiders.
July changed the chart far more than June did. Seven of last month’s top 10 are gone, including June’s entire top three of Forza Horizon 6, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and 007 First Light. Three July releases now occupy those same positions. Grand Theft Auto V, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and Resident Evil: Requiem are the only games that carried over from June.
Seven of July’s top 10 can currently be played through at least one cloud gaming. Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online, Splatoon Raiders, and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream are the three exceptions.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Takes First in an All-New Top Three
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced went straight to number one after launching on July 9. Ubisoft reported two million copies sold worldwide on day one and more than three million during its first week.
Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online follows at number two after launching on July 10, reaching the top two during its first month on sale.
Splatoon Raiders completes the new top three at number three. Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive on July 23, leaving little more than a week of July sales behind its debut. Its digital sales aren’t included in Circana’s Canadian data. That third-place finish comes from physical sales alone, and August will be its first full month on sale.
Those three games replace June’s entire top three. Forza Horizon 6 falls out after finishing first in May and June. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and 007 First Light also leave after holding second and third for two consecutive months.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Star Fox, Minecraft, and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales are the other four June games that drop out. Altogether, seven of June’s top 10 have been replaced.
Grand Theft Auto V Jumps to Fourth as Red Dead Redemption II Returns
Grand Theft Auto V posted July’s biggest climb among the games that carried over from June. After re-entering at tenth last month, it jumps six places to fourth. Fourth is GTA V’s highest Canadian position of 2026. It previously ranked eighth in January.
We wondered last month whether the start of Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders might renew interest in GTA V. Rockstar opened GTA VI pre-orders on June 25, just before GTA V returned to the Canadian top 10. GTA V then climbed from tenth to fourth in July. The timing is notable, but Circana’s chart doesn’t tell us what caused the increase.
Red Dead Redemption II is right behind GTA V at number five, returning after previously ranking seventh in January. Rockstar now has back-to-back spots at fourth and fifth.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream moves from fourth to sixth and reaches four consecutive months in the top 10. It debuted at number two in April, moved to fourth in May, stayed fourth in June, and now sits sixth. Like Splatoon Raiders, its digital sales aren’t included in Circana’s Canadian data.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger enters at seventh. The RPG originally launched on PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC in October 2025. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions followed on July 10. That July release lines up with its first 2026 chart appearance, but Circana’s data doesn’t tell us those versions caused the ranking.
Resident Evil: Requiem Extends Its Top 10 Streak to Six Months
Resident Evil: Requiem slips from sixth to eighth, but it has now stayed in Canada’s top 10 for six consecutive months.
It entered at number one in February and remained there in March. Resident Evil: Requiem moved to seventh in April, sixth in May, stayed sixth in June, and now ranks eighth in July. No other game currently on the chart has an active streak that long.
Halo: Campaign Evolved enters at ninth. Premium and Collector’s Edition early access began July 23, five days before the July 28 launch. Its digital sales also aren’t included in Circana’s Canadian chart. August will be Halo: Campaign Evolved’s first full month on sale.
MLB: The Show 26 closes the top 10 after missing June. It previously ranked second in March, sixth in April, and eighth in May before dropping out last month. Red Dead Redemption II and MLB: The Show 26 are July’s two returning games after an absence.
July 2026 Wrap Up And Look Ahead
Grand Theft Auto V climbed to fourth after returning in June, and Resident Evil: Requiem extended its top-10 streak to six months. Those are two very different ways older games remained part of a July chart dominated by new arrivals.
Seven of July’s ten games have at least one current cloud option. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced currently has the most cloud gaming options among July’s top 10.
August already has several games I’ll be watching when the next Canadian chart arrives. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched August 6, followed by Madden NFL 27 on August 13. Star Wars Zero Company arrived August 27, so it only has the closing days of the month to register.
I’m interested to see whether Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced can hold number one. I’m also curious whether GTA V can stay in the top five and whether Resident Evil: Requiem can extend its streak to seven consecutive months.
